Fidel Castro highlights importance of agreements on climate change

Havana, December 17 (PL) President Fidel Castro today highlighted the
importance of international agreements adopted at the thirteenth United
Nations Conference on Climate Change, held in Bali, Indonesia, and the
need to take them very seriously.

In a letter sent to the television program The Roundtable, the
leader of the Cuban Revolution presented his views on the position of
the United States and industrialized nations at the meetings.

Fidel Castro destaca acuerdos vinculados al cambio climático

La Habana, 17 dic (PL) El presidente Fidel Castro destacó hoy la
importancia de los acuerdos internacionales adoptados en la XIII
Conferencia de Naciones Unidas sobre cambio climático, celebrada en
Bali, Indonesia, y la necesidad de tomarlos muy en serio. 

En una carta difundida por el programa radiotelevisado Mesa Redonda, el
líder de la Revolución cubana expuso sus criterios acerca de la
posición de Estados Unidos y las naciones industrializadas en la cita. 

El mandatario resaltó que en aquella pequeña isla de Indonesia se
reunieron numerosos Jefes de Gobierno de países del llamado Tercer
Mundo, que luchan por su desarrollo y reclaman un trato equitativo,
recursos financieros y transferencias de tecnología a los delegados de
las naciones industrializadas también allí representadas. 

Recordó cómo el Secretario General de la ONU, ante la tenaz obstrucción
de Estados Unidos en el seno de las 190 representaciones allí reunidas,
y después de 12 días de negociación, afirmó que la especie humana podía
desaparecer como consecuencia del cambio climático.
