Lage Congratulates People of Cienfuegos

Havana, Dec 18 (acn) Cuban Vice President Carlos Lage on Monday
congratulated the people of Cienfuegos after witnessing their efforts
in the construction of 100 PVC houses in the Simon Bolivar community.

Lage visited this community that is only a few miles away from the
provincial capital, Cienfuegos, - some 250 kilometers East of Havana -
and said that the people worked as if they were celebrating another
anniversary of the attack on the Moncada Garrison - one of the main
annual festivities on the island.

Speaking to reporters, Lage noted that, working in consecutive shifts
that included 1,800 people during daytime and 500 at night, the people
of Cienfuegos had built 100 of these PVC houses donated by Venezuela in
60 days.

The houses were built using PVC panels and each of them has three
bedrooms, two bathrooms, a living and sitting room, a dinning room and
a kitchen.

Lage also congratulated them for their work in the reactivation of the
Oil Refinery of Cienfuegos - which will be inaugurated on December 21 -
that allowed them to have all the equipment and systems ready in barely
nine months.

On this subject, the high-ranking official stressed that this refinery
will allow the country to increase its refining capacity and to double
it when the second stage of work concludes.

Lage was accompanied by Foreign Minister Felipe Perez Roque and
Salvador Valdes Mesa, General Secretary of the Confederation of Cuban
Workers (CTC).
