Leader of African National Congress Condemns US Blockade of Cuba

Havana, Dec 20 (acn) The General Secretary of the African National
Congress (ANC), Kgalema Motlanthe, reiterated on Wednesday a call for
the end of the US commercial, financial and economic blockade of Cuba.

Motlanthe also demanded the release of five Cuban patriots who remain
unjustly imprisoned in the United States for infiltrating anti-Cuba
extremist groups that were planning and carrying out terrorist actions
against the Cuban people in South Florida.

According to Granma news daily, these expressions of solidarity are
included in the General Secretary's report to the 52nd National
Conference of the ANC that takes place in the city of Polokwane in
South Africa.

Five thousand delegates from all over the country as well as 300 guests
who represent friendly organizations and members of the diplomatic
corps in South Africa are attending the event.

In his report, Motlante gave details of the actions carried out by the
ruling party since the previous conference in 2002 and also listed the
difficulties and challenges they face to achieve the objectives of a
prosperous, united and truly democratic society.

The Cuban delegation to the ANC conference is made up of Oscar Martinez
Cordoba, deputy director of the Foreign Relations Department at the
Central Committee of the Cuban Communist Party, and Esther Armenteros,
the island's ambassador to South Africa.
